New alert: The UK government issues an urgent hurricane season travel warning for the US

The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) has issued a travel advisory for the United States due to the heightened risk of severe hurricanes this season.

The warning comes after an unusually active start to the Atlantic hurricane season, with Hurricane Beryl becoming the earliest Category 5 hurricane on record and Hurricane Debby recently making landfall in Florida.

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has predicted an above-normal hurricane season with a high probability of 17 to 25 named storms.

Of these, up to seven could develop into major hurricanes (Category 3, 4, or 5).
